The Legend of Heroes series is a long running game series produced by Nihon Falcom. This series has been known by two names, both are pretty much the same translation in two languages. The Legend of Heroes or it's Japanese equivalent, Eiyuu Densetsu.
The original game, Dragonslayer: The Legend of Heroes is a spur off of the Dragonslayer games, which happens to be one of the early series published by Nihon Falcom. (One game included in this series was released in the US as Legacy of the Wizard on the NES. This game goes on to have a sequel in itself, both stories being self-contained with each other.
Following the first two games are the titles that belong to the Gagharv Trilogy. Legend of Heroes III: The White Witch, Legend of Heroes IV: Tear of Vermillion, and Legend of Heroes V: Cagesong of the Ocean all tell a story that occurs over the Gagharv Continent. These games have been released on PC, Playstation, Sega Saturn, and most recently, after remade versions of the game were released for PC, there have been ports of these games for the Playstation Portable.
The most notable thing about the Gagharv Trilogy is that English speakers are finally getting to see the games after their release so many years ago. A Tear of Vermillion has been released for the PSP in the United States. While many claim that The White Witch is the most memorable of the game's stories, A Tear of Vermillion is said to have the most solid game system.
After an empty period of no new games (just rereleases- this had been seen in the Ys series as well) in one of the major titles belonging to Falcom, a major announcement was made. On June 2004, Legend of Heroes VI: Sora no Kiseki was released for PC in Japan.
The sixth installment of the series, however, won't be the last either. With the ending open, players were treated to a special video announcing Legend of Heroes: Sora no Kiseki Second Chapter set for release on March 9th, 2006.
It seems that Falcom still has quite a bit up their sleeves for this series.
